2D Con 2026 Review

Good lord, I'm really working my butt off trying to do all these reviews. This is my second time at 2D Con in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It's usually the last or second to last weekend in August, which was the second to last weekend this year. They have this really cool website where you can talk to other attendees, do mini games, and also upload your artist/vendor profile. I thought that was really cool and helpful, because I was also able to check my ST-19 (Minnesota tax document) for my number for Furry Migration. 2D Con is a board game/video game/all-around gaming convention held in a super cool hotel/convention center where they have a pool indoors and next to that they have all the tabletop gaming. They do have party rooms there, and I was able to witness the glory of The Cage room, where you could bring things to them (preset things) and get ribbons in exchange.

They also played Nic Cage movies all weekend, while hiding random little bees, the Declaration of Independence, and have you put the bunny in the box. I only ended up getting the "Not the Beeeeeees" ribbon as they actually lost the Declaration of Independence early on Friday. I hope they were able to find it and have people partake in that part.

This convention is a pretty fun party convention and I had folks telling me that they had gone to bed at 4-5 a.m. before being down at the vendor's hall at 10 a.m. to shop. It could not be me. I went to bed relatively early each night (by relatively, I mean, went to bed at 11:30 and was up reading until past midnight.) There was a pretty decent amount of traffic, but you could tell a majority of people were sleeping off their hangovers each morning. One thing I really appreciate about this convention is that they keep the vendor's hall relatively small so that the money isn't spread as thin. I also appreciate that the organizers get relevant voice actors, but not so many as to drive up table and badge prices. This year, they had a few TF2 voice actors (and had I had time, I may have gotten autographs), and they have it where after the Vendor's Hall closes, the guests can come check out the hall without interruption. My only qualm with that is that we're kind of expected to just sit and wait in case they do decide to come down. (This can be solved by having walkies or something and telling the Dealer's Hall folks whether they're actually planning on coming or not.)

I got to cross off a few amazing Pokemon over the weekend, as well as selling plenty of ribbons (which means I can design and make more!) and having some wonderful conversations with people. I love getting to talk in detail about Pokemon, Warriors, and all our favorite video games. I definitely plan on coming back and hope to be back in Minnesota often, as everyone I meet is always so sweet and has such a positive energy. I feel very safe and like I'm looked after, even though I'm a stranger to folks. All in all, I feel if you're not going too far, you should apply for 2D con, especially if you're a huge nerd with plenty of video game merch.

I also was able to finish the Owlbear amigurumi over the weekend, so it was pretty successful. (And Weepinbell went home after several people called it a Corn kigu or a Banana)
